It's unhealthy for our finances:
- The proposed Marjorie Jackson-Nelson Hospital is planned to cost
almost $2 Billion. At this stage, Mike Rann's Government has not even
commissioned a formal design team to begin documenting this concept. How do
we know how much it's really going to cost? We don't, do we Mike?
- Mike Rann and his government are saying "The Marj" will be an 800
Bed hospital. The current Royal Adelaide Hospital now has 1,000 beds
including 150 at Hampstead. Why do we need to spend $2 Billion to lose 200
Beds? A scheme to redevelop the existing Royal Adelaide Hospital into a
world-class facility would cost a little over $1 Billion. That's half of
the cost of "The Marj" proposal. In real terms, that's an equivalent saving
of almost $1,000 per South Australian. What could we do with that other $1
Billion? More nurses, maybe Mike?
- The sad reality is that South Australia can't even afford this
Hospital. That's why Mike Rann and his team have decided to fund it using a
PPP - A Public Private Partnership. This means that private companies and
special interest groups and going to put up the money to build it, and
profit from it while the people of South Australia pay for it with interest
for the next 30 years. We ask, do we really want to see the largest public
health-care institution in our State virtually privatised? No Mike, we
don't!!
- Under this proposal, $102 Million recently spent on capital works at
the existing Royal Adelaide Hospital, including a brand new Emergency
Department, will be wasted.
